Nostalgic fun. Lots of neat, some hard to find items. We have been coming here for years and there are always new, unique items. I love the history behind the Mast General Store. We also love to stop by the Candy Barrel and other unique shops while we are there. Everyone should visit at least once. If you do, you will be sure to go back!

I made an unplanned visit to Mast General Store in Boone. We were visiting our son and my family was deciding where to have dinner. So I slipped into the store while they looked at online menus. As I walked into the store, I noticed that I had never paid attention in previous visits to the amount of beautiful merchandise & selection available. The fact that this store is historical dating back to 1883 is even more exciting! As I took pics/videos two young employees upstairs near shoes asked me what I was doing & I shared that I am a top Google contributor & they asked to take their pic. I didn’t mind & then they informed me that the owner, Lisa happened to be in the Boone store today. What a lovely coincidence. So we met. I asked if I could do a short clip of her explaining her family’s acquisition of the general store in the 1970s. For example, I did not know that this is one of 11 stores & it is family & employee owned. I love that! If you are traveling and are in need of anything from jackets to sportswear to even a bit dressier attire and the favorite to many, the go-to Birkenstock. And so many other great comfortable shoe brands. There is truly something for everyone! From made in the USA to eco-friendly brands, they have it all! Also “Love” the candy & novelty items. Lisa was sweet & gifted us the private labeled candy bars with Mast General printed on them. My husband remarked as to how delicious they were. He tried all 3 flavors & he is a picky guy as a chef. I also enjoyed looking at the Home & Hearth section as well. As a guide, I say….Mast General Store is a must! PS the owner highly recommended a visit to the Valle Crucis store. I am saving it to Google Maps right now. Also I am in love with the LL Bean check PJ short set in luxurious cotton that I brought home. These would make a great gift for any woman that loves to sleep cool. Enjoy! Josephine Local Guide

Visiting Boone, we decided to stop in and check out this Mast General Store. We live in Winston-Salem and have a Mast General Store. This place was really cool. They have a lot of nice items. I do love the variety of candy and toys.

A most interesting establishment. Certainly the variety of candy is extraordinary. Many unique items you don’t see any more. Be prepared though it’s $6 for a half pound. Prices on many items were hard to find. There is a large clothing selection on the first floor. Be sure to venture to the second floor for many other items such as shoes and gifts. Conveniently located in the downtown area.

The old school candy is the best selection I have ever seen! This store has lots of local items and is fun to browse. There's plenty of toys for the kids as well.

Old fashioned candy store, with wide variety of other goods, clothing, toys, gifts, and local arts. Some of the merchandise are a bit pricey but still fun to browse, especially when they have end of season sale. 😍 . …

A very cute and well stocked general store. As you step thru the door, it feels like stepping back in time. They have lots of great stuff from candy and toys to clothes and kitchen wares. If you are in Boone, this is a great stop. Just really pay attention to meters where you park. I got a ticket for 7 minutes over!

We were so delighted by this store! Such a historic gem, replete with quirky touches like drawers full of screws and an old Coca Cola cooler. You can buy souvenirs, snacks, or even sneakers here - or post a letter and buy stamps, like we did. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Thank you to the very friendly staff for a great visit!

We always swing by this store. Very large with something for everyone. My daughter loves the candy shop of course!
